Optional tax deductions & allowances
Conditions apply from 2026: rent must be paid electronically from 1 July 2026; qualifying green spend above the cap may be carried forward up to 4 years. Both deductions are means-tested on gross household income (€40,000 single, up to €200,000 for larger families) — this calculator does not check that.
How This Is Calculated
This calculator combines Cyprus income tax (progressive bands 0%-35%), social insurance contributions (8.8% employee, capped at €68,904/year), and GESY healthcare contributions (2.65% employee, capped at €180,000/year; 4% self-employed). Tax deductions for children, housing costs, and green energy upgrades are applied to income tax only.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between gross and net salary?
Gross salary is your total pay before deductions. Net salary (take-home pay) is what you actually receive after income tax, social insurance and GESY are deducted. For an employee earning €42,000, deductions are about 11.45% for SI+GESY plus income tax on the remainder.
How do self-employed contributions differ?
Self-employed persons pay 16.6% social insurance against 8.8% for employees, and 4% GESY against 2.65% for employees. They have no employer covering the other half of contributions. Self-employed income is also subject to income tax on the same progressive scale.
Is GESY capped like social insurance?
GESY is capped at €180,000/year across all income sources — salary, dividends, interest and rent. Social insurance is capped at €68,904/year. Employers additionally pay 3.7% in Social Cohesion, Redundancy and Training Fund contributions.
